Our overnight answering staff will provide guidance and emergency information after hours so you are never alone in an emergency. Any time your pet is scheduled for anesthesia, fasting will be required. When your pet is under the effects of anesthesia, their swallowing reflex is decreased. Sometimes, a pet may vomit from the drugs, placing them at risk of aspirating on or inhaling the vomit into the lungs, which can be deadly. By fasting your pet, you decrease the chance your pet may vomit during anesthesia.
Be sure to follow our fasting instructions before your pet’s surgery – don’t give in to your pet’s plea’s – it is for their own safety. Depending on your pet’s situation, may allow your pet to have water overnight and before you leave home to prevent dehydration.
Before your pets surgery or procedure, we will inform you if your pet requires medication in the morning. In some cases, this is necessary – please ask any questions you may have about administering drugs to your pet.
We may also request that you bring your pet’s food and medication with you on their surgery date. Depending on the type of surgery your pet is scheduled for, they will have the option to eat and we prefer to feed them the food they are used to.

When you and your pet arrive for their surgical procedure, you will need to sign a consent form to make sure everybody is on the same page. It is important to us that you have asked any questions you may have and that we have addressed any concerns you still have. If there is ever anything that is unclear, never hesitate to ask.
We require that you leave a phone number in which you can be reached in case of a change in plans, procedure, or an emergency.
When your pet is ready to be picked up, we will explain how your pet’s surgery went, any unexpected changes, supply you with medication if necessary, provide you with detailed take home instructions, and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
In some cases, unexpected situations can arise, so it is important that you follow our take home care instructions for your pet and call with your questions or concerns.
Depending on the severity of your pet’s surgical procedure, there may be several things you must do to help your pet recover. Start by ensuring that you are following our take home instructions and providing your pet with medication if necessary.
Pets that are recovering from surgery will often require confinement, special incision care, bandage or splint care, special diets, and medication.
